Project Description: Johnson Crossing Academic Center is an existing 102,146 square foot
building with 2 classroom wings for 5th and 6th grade students flanking a central core area
containing elective classrooms, a media center, gymnasium, kitchen, commons, and
administrative areas.
Two (2) new additions of approximately 8,400 sq. ft. each will be constructed, (1) to the
north-east, and (1) to the south-east. Each addition will contain 5 classrooms, an activity
area, and restrooms. Within each addition the center classroom will double as a severe
weather shelter. Site work and paving work at the east parking area will be required to
accommodate the 2 new additions.
The existing music area, along with 1 adjacent classroom space, will be remodeled into a
new music area including a band room with 2 practice rooms, an orchestra room, and a
vocal music room.
The existing down-lights in the existing commons area ceiling and adjacent exterior canopy
soffits will be removed and replaced with new LED light fixtures – this work will require
replacement of existing ceiling pads where identified on the drawings at each light fixture,
and patch and repair of the existing DEFS soffits at the exterior canopy at each light fixture.
The building, drives, and parking areas are to remain functional, operational, and occupied
during the entire duration of the project.
